Marilynn has been captivated by Lake Superior since she first visited it in 1997 as an artist-in-residence on Isle Royale, the lake's island national park. Since then, she and her husband Al have returned to the lake almost every summer in search of images that convey the area's incredible beauty.

Marilynn's Lake Superior painting series includes images from many locations around the lake, but most are from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. In summer 2004 Marilynn spent 3 weeks in the Keweenaw as guest of the Gratiot Lake Conservancy. This period enabled her to become intimately acquainted with the Lake Superior shore, Gratiot Lake and other nature preserves on the Peninsula, and the experience is inspiring some of her finest work.
